Look at yourself in the mirror each morning and know that you are an exceptional person for doing what you do for others.
We offer various types of work opportunities for Personal Carers.
We recognise that by offering flexible options, we can provide quality support for clients whilst retaining the best people.
Whilst most of our PA's are employed by Milcare, we have some other options which also might be useful.
The choice is yours!
PAYE employment, either full time or part time.
PAYE staff make up the majority of our PA's.
Contracted hours can vary between 16 to 37.5 hours per week.
28 days leave per annum, upskilled training, industry leading rates of pay, advancement opportunities, increased rates for bank holidays.
In most instances, all Carers will need to hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own insured vehicles.
On some occasions, there are opportunities for non-drivers but this will be dependent on the location of the carer and the client.
You will need permission to work in the UK.
For employees that hold an NVQ 3 and above, their are additional rates of pay.
We offer opportunities for Carers to advance to senior carers, team leaders and assessors.
Have a look at our digital brochure below
Self-Employed Contractors.
We have a number of PA's who run their own companies and who we offer contracted work to.
They are their own bosses and work the hours that they want to.
They have to be prepared to be qualified to a level for our clients, have their own insurance and be responsible for their own tax returns.
Benefits are the flexibility and control of income.
As a self employed contractor, you will be responsible for your own training costs, DBS etc.
As a self employed contractor, you can claim for various allowances such as; Portions of your mortgage or rent, mileage allowance, mobile phone costs.
It is normally beneficial to use an accountant to support you with this.
Bank Work.
We have a number of Bank Workers who may be employed as nurses or work for other companies.
There is no obligation for a bank worker to commit to hours nor for the employer to offer hours.
Bank Workers have to complete our training and induction processes to ensure they align with our ethos and working practices.
Bank work can be ideal for some people who don't want to commit to a role all the time, or to top up their hours from another employer who hasn't given you enough work.
A complete change in careers
A personal profile of someone who transitioned from an alternate role into the care sector.
I worked in logistics for almost 15 years, my roles almost always involved sales, operations and customer service and have always thought of myself as a people's person. I enjoyed logistics but somewhere in the back of my mind I knew that I wanted to get out of the sector at some point and start a whole new career.
Covid 19 certainly accelerated my decision to change my career! Admittedly it would have been good to have been in control of my own destiny and make the decision in my own time but pandemics very rarely work like that! I was furloughed from my job at the beginning of April 2020 and, like so many others, initially it was a novelty.
I had no previous employment experience in adult health and social care. I am fortunate in that my own parents are in great shape so have never even needed to call upon a team of carers. An advert for Milcare caught my eye on Facebook and it got me thinking, I had spent a good six weeks doing nothing apart from PE with Joe and working on my furlough tan but maybe I should try and give something back?
And so began my caring journey and my complete change of career. I have always worked with people and with customers but never so directly as the clients that I now look after. The job is so much more than making cups of tea and watching daytime TV!
You have to consider areas such as safe-guarding, risk assessments, consent and permission, being an advocate for somebody, concise and clear note-taking, health and safety, flu vaccinations, COVID 19 vaccinations etc, PPE, moving and handling . The list goes on and on.
I have met some fantastic people in the past six months, in terms of the clients that I assist and also my fabulous caring colleagues. It really is an honour and privilege to be involved in my clients lives and to see first hand the difference that I am making with assisting them in living an independent life. The good times definitely outweigh the bad and not a day goes by when I don't have a good giggle with my clients about something.
The days can sometimes be long but I don't regret for one minute 'falling' into a career in care and I am currently exploring future opportunities. I have a great management team supporting me and I've received fantastic training. They are always there to answer any questions that I have but my confidence and indeed abilities have come on leaps and bounds since my first day out with clients!
I have learned so much about myself too and I have found new levels of patience, understanding and empathy.
The pay in care is not as good as my previous role but having done some research, Milcare is paying at a higher rate than other company I've looked at, which is a bonus.
I am looking to undertake my level 3 this next year to further enhance my skills
So would I recommend a career in care? Absolutely! Give it a go, you might just surprise yourself.
